Oleta River State Park

February 2 - 4, 2024

This was a very chill trip staying in one of the park's cabins. My boyfriend wanted to visit his dad and his friend so we decided to make the trip double as a visit to nature. While he was out, I stayed behind and walked every single trail in the camp, including the mountain bike trails. All the signs indicated that they're supposed to be for pedestrians, too, so I went for it.

Oleta is, sadly, mostly occupied by two invasive species - Australian Pine and Oyster plants. But there's still plenty of mangroves and spots in the park where the native species are still hanging out, so I saw plenty of ferns, land crabs, native wildflowers, and one of my favorite fish - the checkered pufferfish (Sphoeroides testudineus). I even saw babies, they were so itty bitty!!
